Luftwaffe Issued leather flight jacket for a Major of Flight, salty!
This jacket has seen use and lots of it. Many of these where stripped of the electrical connectors and used post war, however this one has all the connectors intact. Had it been used post war, one would expect the connectors, particularly the inside ones, to have been removed.
Despite the wear, the leather remains quite supple and has an attractive deep patina.
The original red brown lining remains, but is in quite poor condition with holes and shredding.
The artificial fur collar is in decent shape except a bald spot on one side.
Both sleeve zippers are the original ones, but both are nonfunctional and missing some teeth at the end. On one, the zipper head is stuck at the bottom, on the other it has come off, but it was in the pocket.
The factory applied breast eagle has been replaced with a bullion officer's eagle, and on the opposite side of the breast we find a wonderfully detailed bullion pilot's badge. Finally the jacket has been fitted with a pair of Flight Major's shoulderboards. All the insignia match the wear of the jacket and appears to have been sitting there for a very long time.
The jacket came with a pair of leather pants, which are not the type of pants normally used with this type of jacket, but they match the jacket quite nicely, and will be included in the deal.
These jackets are rarely seen with the connectors intact and with other insignia than a breast eagle, and had this one been in better condition, price would be almost double.
The set comes with a transferable lifetime guarantee from History Hunter (Craig Gottlieb).
